Uniform policy

School uniform policies

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.

Footwear

When purchasing school shoes parents are asked to be mindful of NSW Department of Education and Training, Occupational Health & Safety requirements regarding footwear. This requirement states that all students involved in practical activities in subject areas including Creative Arts, Industrial Arts, Home Economics, and Science must wear: “shoes with fully enclosed firm leather uppers, including the tongue, and a stout non-slip sole”

This requirement is satisfied through the purchase of black leather, lace-up school shoes as per the school’s uniform policy. Rabens, vans, volleys, converse, skate style shoes, canvas style shoes, gym boots and ballet flats do not provide adequate protection and are therefore not acceptable.

Students who present themselves to classes without the correct footwear will not be permitted to participate in practical activities.

Incorrect Uniform and Uniform Passes

Sometimes there may be special circumstances and you may not have your correct uniform. For example, wet weather or parental hospitalisation, etc. In this situation:

  • come to school in the minimum dress requirements, looking neat and tidy with a note written by your parents
  • present this note to your Homeroom teacher
  • your Homeroom teacher will issue you with a uniform pass to excuse your dress on that day.
Please note: this does not apply to hoodies and tracksuit pants. Our policy is to loan school jumpers, skirts and trousers instead.
  • the uniform pass must be kept all day
  • minimum dress (no admission to classes unless met): collared shirt, trousers, shorts or skirt, underwear, enclosed shoes and socks or stockings.

PLEASE NOTE: The following items are NOT part of the Jamison High School Uniform and are considered unacceptable attire:

  • Tracksuit pants
  • hoodies
  • non-school coloured items of any kind

Our policy is to supply loan socks, jumpers, pants and skirts (with tights if requested) for students to change into for the day if they are not dressed in correct uniform.

This applies to students who bring a note from home.

Students who attend school without a note are also required to attend a detention.
