Covid-19 JHS Update for Parents

JHS Update on Covid 19

Latest News as of 16/03/2020

On Friday March 13 our Newsletter contained important information about Covid 19. This advice has been updated in the post below.

The situation and advice is changing daily. Our method of communication for updates so far has been over our social media platforms and our website. We will continue to provide updates as information comes to hand. Please note that we will use our School Bytes program that has parent emails for highly important notifications around the spread of the virus. Please ensure your information and contact details are up to date so that this communication method is effective.

Tips for students

Some practical advice we can offer includes reminding your child to cover their nose and mouth when they cough or sneeze (coughing into their elbow is a useful strategy), wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds (all our toilets have soap dispensers for this purpose and Department of Health signage on hand washing for 20 seconds is displayed at all hand washing sinks in the school). As a BYOD school we also expect students to bring a device to school to access learning materials and complete the learning activities.

Stay home if students are sick

It is important that children stay at home if they feel unwell or have flu like symptoms and that they avoid close contact with anyone with flu like symptoms. If health officials ask you to keep your child at home in quarantine as a precaution, can you please let us know by phone and we will record their appropriately. Online learning options are available through Google Classroom for the classes at our school. If your child is absent and cannot access the online learning resources, please contact the school for advice.

Cancellation and Postponement of Activities and Non-Essential Meetings

As of Monday, March 16 2020, we are postponing all non-essential meetings. The Year 8 and 9 Parent Connect scheduled for Tuesday night will be postponed to a later date. After consultation with the P&C Executive, their Annual General Meeting, scheduled for Tuesday night, will also be postponed to a later date.

All sport, zone team trials and Zone Sport competitions are postponed. This includes the Sydney West Zone Swimming Carnival scheduled for Friday March 20.

Excursions at this stage are cancelled in the interests of student safety. This will be reviewed in week 11 of Term One. Full refunds will be made available for any monies received by the school. Should other options for excursions become available into the future, when the situation has eased, they will be prioritised for students.

Classes at the school will operate as normal. In line with advice we will not be holding our scheduled full school assemblies.

As recommendations about school operations are made by the Department, we will ensure they are implemented.
