High Potential and Gifted Education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive. At Jamison High School we accelerate students in their learning to further challenge students learning and achieving above their age group.
Jamison High School offers a number of High Potential and gifted Education Programs. These programs are free-of-charge for our students; however, to be part of our HPGE Programs, there are three requirements for our students to meet:
• The student’s attendance rate is 90% or greater;
• The student wears full school uniform every day;
• The student has minimal negative incidents.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Jamison High School, we provide an enriching and supportive learning environment that nurtures the strengths and interests of our students. Our teachers design differentiated and challenging learning experiences tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students, including acceleration when appropriate.
Students are encouraged to set personal learning goals and regularly reflect on their progress, fostering self-awareness and resilience. Our programs emphasise both independent and collaborative learning, developing key skills such as teamwork, self-management, and time management. Cross-curricular tasks and authentic projects provide meaningful contexts for students to apply and extend their talents across intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical domains.
Jamison High School is committed to creating a safe and stimulating classroom environment where students feel confident to take risks, persevere, and excel. Through these enriched learning pathways, we support our students to achieve their full potential and become engaged, motivated learners ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
At Jamison High School, we offer a broad range of enriched learning opportunities designed to support and challenge our students within a welcoming and inclusive community.
At our school High Potential and Gifted Education includes programs in Basketball, Netball, Rugby League, Music, and Golf, allowing students to develop their talents through skill development. These programs foster excellence, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.
Beyond these targeted programs, students engage in a variety of extracurricular activities including academic competitions, debating, creative arts ensembles, and performance opportunities. Leadership is highly valued and encouraged through the Student Representative Council and house leadership roles, helping students build confidence, empathy, and community spirit.
Our partnerships with local universities, industry groups, and community organisations enrich learning experiences and provide authentic opportunities for students’ future pathways.
Together, these diverse programs and initiatives reflect Jamison High School’s commitment to nurturing every student’s potential and supporting them to become motivated, engaged learners and confident leaders. Our school community is built on the values of being Safe, Respectful, and Aspirational Learners, guiding all students in their academic and personal growth.
At Jamison High School, our students actively participate in a wide range of state-wide programs and events that extend learning beyond the local community and connect them to the broader NSW public school network. These opportunities allow students to showcase their talents, develop leadership skills, and engage with like-minded peers across the state.
Our students are regularly involved in prestigious initiatives such as the Premier’s Reading Challenge and Premier’s Sporting Challenge, encouraging healthy lifestyles and a love of learning. Through competitive sport pathways, including Combined High Schools Sport Competitions and State Sport Representation, our athletes build resilience, teamwork, and commitment on regional, state, and national stages.
Jamison High School’s performers participate in events that include the Schools Spectacular, an iconic celebration of creativity and diversity in NSW public schools. Experiences like this help our students develop performance skills, confidence, and deep cultural engagement.
